I'll have to keep this short as I really don't have much time to deal with it. I wouldn't even do it except that I've basically been called a liar. I did play drums with the Gants. This wasn't the cool, teenage Gants of the 1960's, this was the 30 year old Gants who were trying to make a comeback of sorts. I was approached by Johnny Freeman to play with the group, which leads to the part of the story that I screwed up. You see, there were two 'Johnnys' in the Gants at different times, Johnny Freeman and Johnny Sanders. I made the mistake of stating that I was in the group with Johnny Sanders on a facebook post that my older brother Jack put up stating that I played with the Gants. He was proud of me and I love him for that. Sid Herring is a nice guy and I don't mean any disrespect toward him. When I said it was Johnny Sanders he surely couldn't remember me playing with the group that Johnny Sanders played in. That was at the height of their popularity and is the Gants that Sid remembers. When I played drums with the Gants I was also playing with two other groups, "Good Grief" and "Smote, Hip & Thigh, and the Funky Chicken Jazz Review", and I seldom saw the members of the Gants except at rehearsals and gigs. Anyway to at least get something out of this little episode, this website, http://www.semimentalmusic.com/, contains most of the groups and organizations that I'm affiliated with on a permanent basis. I don't think anyone on the list will deny my existence. If you enjoy music from the era of the Gants I urge you to check out http://coltandtheold45s.com/. Be aware that music will begin to play when you go to the site. We play music from the same era, so feel free to hire us and feel free to share this. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. |
